What's On the Bench?

My Big Project at the moment is my upmarket suspense novel: The Buddha Head. My Dad fought in the Korean War, in the Navy, and when he talked about North Koreans (which was sparse in the extreme), he get a very odd look on his face: something between horror and disbelief. It made me terribly curious. My fascination continues; I've finished the draft.

Of course I went to Korea to research this novel, which was intriguing and full of adventure. I made a stunning collection of traveler errors, and a Korean person bailed me out every time. The Korean people are kind and helpful beyond belief.

The book is curently being vetted by beta readers, some specialized, some literary, but all looking for mistakes and missed opportunities. While that goes on, I'll graduate with my MFA and go camping in Oregon with my husband in our off-road trailer. When I get back, I'll dig into final edits before sending out the manuscript to the agents who have requested it. I'll keep you posted.

Of course, I have to have an ancient artifact. It's a thing for me. In this case, an old wooden Buddha head with cracks, peeling paint and a stunning secret.
